ISTA Region 4 Presents

STEM Resources for the School Year

August 1st, 2018

12-3 pm

Heartland Bank Community Room

Are you ready to reach beyond the walls of your classroom to make STEM come to life for your students?  Spend an afternoon with us and learn about the variety of free STEM resources available to teachers in our area.  Speakers from a wide range of community organizations including IBM, Miller Park Zoo, and Cornbelt Energy will share information, ideas, and hands on activities that you can use to address NGSS standards and impress your students.  This event is free for ISTA members or  $5 for non-members and includes a light lunch, 2.5 CEUs, and door prizes!

Thank you,

Jennifer Smith and Chris Sewell - Region 4 Directors

 ISTA Conference Grant Opportunity

This fund will provide support to attend the 2018 ISTA Annual Conference (October 19-20)   to teachers in need.

The following must be fulfilled by September 15, 2018 at 11:59pm:

 - A letter of interest from the applying teacher detailing why conference attendance wouldn't     be possible without this grant (300 words),

 - A statement from the applying teacher explaining how they have worked to improve their   classroom instruction through NGSS implementation (showing examples is a plus) (300   words), and

 - a letter from your administrator explaining the need for substitute teacher   reimbursement     and their support of the applying teacher to attend the conference.

Please send all of the above in a single document (MS Word or PDF formats   recommended) to Dr. Bridina Lemmer at ilscienceassessment@gmail.com.  Late   applications will not be accepted.  Funds in the amount of $250 (conference registration   and substitute teacher stipend) will be distributed as reimbursement to the applicant's   school district after they have attended the conference on October 19th and/or October   20th.

Ronald and Charleen Crean raised two sons, both of whom are teachers.  They were

always dedicated to the education of young people and found it important to support

teachers everywhere.  This fund will be used to support science teachers via attendance

at the annual ISTA Conference.  This aligns with the ISTA mission to provide professional

support to Illinois teachers so they may provide excellence in science education to Illinois

students state-wide.
